My daughter has been begging me to help her bake something from her new cookbook she got for Christmas. She decided she wanted to make the jam heart cookies on the front cover since they go so well with Valentine’s Day.
These cookies are a simple sugar cookie dough with lemon zest in them. We used some of our Valentine’s heart cookie cutters to create tops and bottoms. After the cookies were cooled we added raspberry jam to the bottom cookie and then topped it with the heart cutout cookie. The kids then had a great time making it snow on the cookies with powdered sugar through a small sifter. For a faster creation, use ready made dough and knead in some lemon zest.
I have to say, these were some scrumptious cookies!
The best thing about the book is that there are step-by-step pictures for each recipe. Even though the cookbook is titled, ‘The Children’s Baking Book’, most of the recipes require a lot of adult supervision. I would recommend this cookbook for an older child or teenager.

When I ate gluten, these cookies (I think they’re lindzer?) were my favorite ones in France. These turned out so beautifully.
Thanks Lady Jennie! Yes, they remind me of those cookies too. Hope you and your family are doing well! Happy Valentine’s Day!
